To complete the
screen, I layed all 10 panels out and after I had settled on the design, I glued
or stitched all the flat components to the navy card. The moulds and chunky
items set aside for fixing at the end.
For the fabric hinges I used 4 pieces of fabric (36 cm x 4 cm) and folded them
in half lengthwise. I sewed them along the long edges about 1cm in from the edge
to hold them. Two other end pieces (36 cm x 6cm) were folded lengthwise and then
in half again widthwise so I ended up with 2 pieces measuring 3 cm x 18 cm. I
sewed the raw edges together again about 1cm from the edge adding a ribbon 3cm
from the top with the ends each 22cm long for tying.
To assemble I layed 5 cards that form one side of the screen face down and used
Halcraft's Curiously Sticky Tape which is an inch wide and ran it around the
edge of the back of the cards. I layed the fabric hinge on top of the tape and
with about 2cm from the top edge to bridge two adjacent cards together and
leaving 1 1/2cm of fabric between to allow for the dowel to be inserted. The
edge fabric placed at the ends also with 1 1/2cm free for the dowel. I then
placed more of the tape over the inside edges of the fabric hinges. I carefully
layed the cards from the other side of the screen over the corresponding bottom
cards pressing firmly. I tied the ribbon and then added the moulds affixing them
with Golden Gel Medium and the letters, with Xyron permanent sticker maker to
finish.
